Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR) opened in December 2007, becoming North America’s newest four-season destination resort. RMR is the first and only new resort to be developed on Crown (Federal) lands under a Master Development Agreement with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts, in accordance with BC’s All-season Resort Guidelines. The agreement represents the conclusion of a nearly 15-year planning process that included mountain planning and design, market analyses, permitting and entitlements, and ski-in/ski-out real estate design.
In addition to the planning and design for the new resort, an analysis of projected visitation confirmed that the resort would make significant contributions to BC’s projected skier-visit growth within the Province, and, in fact, without RMR it would be unlikely that Provincial visitation projections would be met. Due to the resort’s location and unique attributes, its development will complement existing resorts in the region rather than cutting into their market share.
The completed resort will offer 6,000 vertical feet of skiing, more than any resort in North America, as well as lodging for 15,000 guests. RMR is the only resort world-wide to offer lift, cat, heli and backcountry skiing from one village base, and the varied skiing opportunities at RMR span an area exceeding 515,000 acres.
