Townsend Embarks on its long-awaited Community-Driven Planning Process to Enhance Quality of Life and Meet the Challenges of the Future
The City of Townsend today announced the launch of a comprehensive community planning initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents. The aim is to create a vision for the future that honors and maintains the unique character and quality of life in Townsend.
Townsend has partnered with SE Group, a nationally recognized planning firm with extensive experience in communities where proximity to outdoor beauty and cultural heritage are intertwined with daily life. SE Group will begin its work with the City of Townsend, starting with an introductory meeting to introduce the team and start the conversation of establishing a shared understanding of the community’s needs and desires. SE Group will have a representative address the Planning Commission on July 11th at 6 PM. This will be followed by in-depth research and analysis over the next several months. SE Group will help facilitate community events to engage in conversations with residents, business owners, community leaders, and other stakeholders to gather diverse perspectives on the town’s future.
“Our goal is to thoughtfully and intentionally plan for the future of Townsend,” said Mayor Prater. “We’re committed to listening to our community to create a plan that will protect and preserve the things valued by our residents.”
Throughout the planning process, residents will have numerous opportunities to provide input and stay informed through a dedicated project website, public workshops, and online surveys. The final plan will serve as a guide for decision-making on a range of topics, including land use, transportation, economic development, tourism, and recreation, ensuring that Townsend’s future is shaped with intentionality and care.
“We believe that the most effective plans are those that are co-created with the community,” said Idalina Williams, Associate Planner at SE Group. “We are eager to listen to the voices of Townsend residents and work together to craft a plan that truly reflects their vision for a thriving and sustainable community.”
The Community Plan Advisory Committee (CPAC) is a committee commissioned by the Townsend Planning Commission to oversee the planning process. CPAC meets the third Tuesday of each month at 5 PM and encourages the community to attend and share your ideas, hopes, and dreams for Townsend.
