SE Group is seeking a NEPA Project Manager to join our team at the Associate or Senior Associate level. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team that specializes in permitting and environmental analysis for places that are shaped by a strong natural resource base, visitation and tourism, or access to the outdoors and public lands. Our project work is extensive and includes some of the most beautiful recreation destinations (ski resorts, bike parks, mountain communities, wilderness and roadless areas) in the country. We like to think we have the best site visits!
This role is designed for candidates that have clear experience managing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) projects such as EISs and EAs - please apply if you are able to demonstrate this on your resume!

Position Priorities
As part of the Environmental Planning & Permitting team, this position will manage projects and project teams on primarily proponent-driven NEPA processes. These projects will primarily focus on outdoor recreation assets, ski area development, and conservation efforts to improve forest resiliency in rural areas.
The key responsibilities may vary depending on your experience, but may include:
- Project management of small-to-medium sized projects (e.g., Environmental Assessments), including:
- Managing and mentoring project team
- Managing project subconsultants
- Coordinating all agency and public interactions and communications
- Budget preparation and oversight
- Leading and facilitating interdisciplinary team and client meetings
- Assistant project management or project management for large, complex projects (e.g., Environmental Impact Statements), including:
- Reviewing and editing various document subsections
- Assisting and directing coordination between agencies and subconsultants
- Identifying and researching project-specific resource issues
- Analyzing appropriate local and project-specific policies
- Supporting PM with task delegation and oversight of broader project team
- Contribute to business development initiatives, including client relationship management, lead generation, and project proposals
- Engage in industry thought leadership through publication and panels/presentations
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in biological or natural resources, environmental science/policy, planning, forestry, or other related field. A Master’s degree in a similar field is preferable. We are open to a variety of backgrounds, but we will prioritize candidates that have 6-12+ years of professional experience working on environmental or public lands regulations and/or in natural resource management.
Other required skills and experience include:
- Demonstrated 4+ years experience serving as project manager on NEPA projects, with a preference of Forest Service and/or BLM specific NEPA projects – this is a required experience to be considered for this role, the expectation is at least 50% of your previous roles have been dedicated managing projects
- A strong understanding of federal law with overlap of the NEPA process, including the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, and National Historic Preservation Act.
- Proven success managing and mentoring small teams – what’s your leadership style?
- Excellent communication skills – this position relies on ample writing and speaking in front of interdisciplinary teams
- Excellent attention to detail – you’re keenly focused on the pulse of each project and understand what comes next
- Prior experience contributing to business development and marketing – initiative here is key to our growth
- An entrepreneurial spirit – you don’t just “do the job”
- Demonstrated ability to achieve high results in an independent work setting – key with our distributed team
Note on location: SE Group will prioritize candidates that can work full-time in our Salt Lake City, UT office or remotely in Colorado. Other remote candidates may be considered depending on qualifications.

- The anticipated salary range for this position is between $80,000 and $120,000, depending upon qualifications, experience, and location.
