Mountain Resorts
With over 65 years in the business and over 3,000 projects under our belts, we’ve shaped—and continue to shape—the ski and mountain resort industry through strategically focused and comprehensive concept-to-completion services. We’ve become true partners and trusted advisors to our clients. We fully understand this industry and approach our work with passion and a great sense of responsibility to help our clients deliver a great experience, year-round.
Our Services
We know mountain systems. Our thoughtful on-mountain planning and design is rooted in a deep understanding of every aspect of operations and the guest experience. Whether you’re creating a new resort, expanding skiable terrain, or replacing a lift, SE Group is with you from ideation to implementation. Our planning and design services include feasibility studies, site selection, master plans, ski trail design, lift layout and technology selection, capacity modeling, and facility balance.
Expanding multi-season recreation is an excellent opportunity to enhance operational viability, deliver greater value to existing guests, and attract an entirely new audience. A resort guest's experience is vastly different in winter and summer. When considering year-round operations, enhancing the customer’s experience through thoughtful design is paramount. And your guests won’t just come to ski. We consider recreational opportunities for all seasons and all users.
We think about development and hospitality as part of the overall experience which requires a deep understanding of the place and the market. Resort destinations need to connect people with nature, align with the brand, and deliver on the experience. This requires thoughtful integration with the landscape and terrain, adjacencies to facilities, and differentiation of amenities. An important touch point for your guests, these projects require exceptional attention to detail that comes with decades of experience. We bring a forward-thinking approach with a dose of logic to center design from concept to construction.
We manage environmental compliance at every stage of your project. As industry leaders in Ski Area NEPA, resorts within or adjacent to National Forest lands can rely on our deep understanding of the regulatory process and long-standing relationships with the U.S. Forest Service to help effectively and efficiently navigate this complex process. Our expertise in forest health and fuels reduction to lower wildfire risk can help clients protect their most valuable assets on the mountain.
We don’t just plan your ski area; we help you build, establish, and maintain a viable operation. We consider the business complexities that change throughout the year and understand the need for consistent operational efficiencies. We think beyond planning and design, considering operations in all seasons and the overarching vision and business case that drives the endeavor.
Why us?
You are the leaders and visionaries in the ski industry. We’re your trusted partners in making that vision viable. We’ve been stewards of the ski industry for over 65 years, helping create exceptional mountain systems. Together with our clients, we will continue to lead, innovate, and shape the future of mountain resorts and ski areas.
65 years of experience
Vision that's rooted in strategy
3,000 projects and counting
Established 1958 Don't just take our word for it
SE Group has a wealth of information on industry trends, pinch points, challenges and opportunities whether it's defining what success looks like in the summer for resorts and managing capacity and overcrowding issues to meeting and exceeding guests interest, master planning and much more. We have relied on them for thought pieces in SAM magazine and to lead practical sessions at our annual Summer Ops Camp event.
Once again, SE Group demonstrated their leadership in working through the permitting process. Their innovative planning and thorough analysis was essential for these first two groundbreaking summer recreation projects on the National Forest.
As the President of Poley Mountain Resorts, I view SE Group as a strategic partner to our enterprise. Whether it is delivering more value to our members, mitigating risk through our infrastructure investments or realizing our diversification strategy, SE Group has played a part. We have been working together for twenty years. We have turned to SE Group at the key inflection points in our evolution. From an ownership structure change, recovering from a devastating lodge fire to our current focus on diversification, we have drawn upon the experience and talents of the SE Group. It is a partnership that has served Poley Mountain well.
SE Group brings to the table not only loads of expertise and experience in outdoor recreation but also the ability and commitment to tailoring their recommendations to our unique needs and environment. SE Group does this so well because they invest the time to get to know our operation, our challenges and our history: Their recommendations reflect our specific opportunities and challenges – not some off-the-shelf, cookie-cutter plan. Equally important, I never once have felt like "just a client." Instead, I’ve been part of a supportive team focused on the success of my resort. SE Group experts formed real relationships with me and my team that allow us to communicate openly and give me great confidence in the ultimate recommendations they make. I know I can count on them to be there when I need assistance, and that means the world.
SE Group provided invaluable counsel and expertise as we transitioned from planning to implementation...We are ready!
No one is better at navigating through the challenging interface between operations and development, tourism visitation and community use, day visitors and overnight guests. SE Group understands the seasonal challenges or operating a year-round business with complexities that change throughout the year.
Since Joe Cushing first set foot on the mountain in the late 1970s, we’ve enjoyed working with the SE team and have appreciated their guidance in carrying out Edgar Stern’s vision for skiing at Deer Valley.
What a wonderful job your staff working on the Berlaimont project has done – especially over the past several months. The Draft EIS is in great shape, the public meeting last night went off without a hitch, the team responded incredibly well to every curve ball thrown at them, we’ve met all our recent timelines, and I couldn’t be happier with where we are sitting in the process.
Let’s start bringing your vision to life
