Hubbard (Underwood) Park Master Plan

Underwood Concept Plan

In 2017 the City of South Burlington Recreation and Parks Department embarked on a master planning process for Underwood Park that would integrate a broad range of public input, including numerous committees. Through this extensive public process, SE Group developed a plan with a unique combination of passive recreation, community agriculture, event space, and natural resource conservation. All the proposed uses are effectively planned to coexist harmoniously, while allowing public and private events to occur simultaneously within the park. The proposed facilities support a flexible program that may change over time, and multi-generational facilities such as raised garden beds, accessible paths, and play areas are seamlessly incorporated into the park plan.

The envisioned character for the park references the historic agrarian character that has become increasingly rare in present day South Burlington, while maintaining much of the existing natural character of the site. The proposed “event barn” and seating areas capitalize on the stunning view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains.

With cost estimates, a list of potential permits and recommendations for project phasing and implementation, the Master Plan for Underwood Park provides a strong foundation for the next phases of project development.
