Bomoseen State Park

SE Group and Northern Architects collaborated on the design to renovate Bomoseen State Park; retaining the historic fabric of the park while providing an enhanced recreational experience to both day and overnight visitors.

The existing beach house was part of the Mission 66 style developed for parks throughout the country in the 1960s and was identified as “significantly historic.” The building was renovated and restored under historic guidelines to maintain its historic character while being updated for ADA compliance, including additions to the restrooms/changing areas and for boat rentals, and new finishes on the interior and exterior.

The park plan includes an enlarged sand beach area, new boat docks, a boardwalk that connects the campground to the day park beach, pedestrian walks and bike path, a picnic grove, playgrounds for different age groups, ADA accessibility, and green stormwater infrastructure landscape features. A photovoltaic panel array is included to generate enough electricity to offset all power used by the day park and achieve a “Net Zero” facility meeting a goal of the State of Vermont.
