Champlain College Center for Communications and Creative Media

Completed in 2015, The Center for Communications and Creative Media (CCM) successfully meets challenge of “fitting” the campus into the neighborhood through re-use of historic buildings and development infill while integrating students into the fabric of the city.

Earning a Vermont Public Places Merit Award in recognition of outstanding design and consideration of public space, this expanded and renovated structure has a combined gross floor area of approximately 87,187 square feet and houses all CCM faculty and academic spaces. The building also includes exhibit space, dining hall and kitchen facilities, classrooms, offices, and support for transit, bookstore, mail and copy services. Being both an academic and lifestyle center, the site and landscape design successfully provides outdoor public spaces for all to use and enjoy.

  • Successful infill development within the context of existing campus and historical Hill Section Neighborhood
  • Redesign of an existing parking lot into a pedestrian promenade corridor that increases connections to the campus circulation system (both pedestrian and transit)
  • Renovation of the Bader Hall for improved public (ADA) access
  • Green features include geothermal energy to heat and cool the building, achieving Three Globes under the Green Globes rating system
  • Integrates public transit and college transit systems into the design of the site
  • Maximizes views and public spaces within and around the building to serve the student body and host multifunctional events
